The utility notification center for Tennessee that arranges marking of underground utility lines before you dig.
Tennessee 811 is the state notification center that passes dig requests to utility owners so underground lines can be marked before work begins. Anyone who digs for a footing, a trench, a fence or a pier in Nashville or anywhere in Tennessee is expected to use it, because buried gas, electric, water and communication lines can be dangerous to hit.
For sheds, garages and barns, the process matters for footings, slabs, piers and electrical trenches. Marks show where utilities are but may not show private lines on your property, so we also review your lot and ask about septic, irrigation and outbuilding wiring. We remind you to call and follow the marks.
Visit the official Tennessee 811 website
Requests go to utility owners.
Lines are marked with paint or flags.
Avoids strikes on gas, electric and water lines.
A wait period applies before digging.
Not always marked, so we check your lot.
Used by homeowners and contractors.
